The Emmys Just Don't Want to Know

So, in all their wisdom, the people at the Emmys decided that  our very own Jensen Ackles wasn't worth a nod to make it on the short list. And there is a short list now, it consists of actors doing their thing to applause and acclaim, but it does not include one of the better actors of our day. Yeah, I adore James Spader and Hugh Laurie and Denis Leary with all my heart. They're good. They're very good. But they're not Jensen Ackles good. The things he can do with his face and his body to telegraph unspoken dialog are mezmerizing. I think the error lies in the Emmy's inability to see past the facade of a horror TV show, though I see that Mary McDonnell from Battlestar Galactica made it to the short list so at least SOMEONE is watching quality TV. 

My protest will be to NOT watch the Emmys this year. Not that I ever do, but you know, in my small way, I'll make my mark.

[sigh] I'm so not surprised, but I'm still terribly disappointed. The Emmy's simply can NOT realize that talent lies outside of "big name" actors, too. And that the CW does not exist to them, plain and simple, and never will. I feel so sorry for Jensen. We all know he deserves a shot at an Emmy, that type of recognition. Like the way Neilsen complies their ratings, the Emmy way of choosing who gets on the ballot is also outdated and antiquated and needs a major overhaul.

Don't let it get you down, Jensen! WE know what an amazing actor you are.

WE know how great Jensen Ackles is, and other people, other reviewers who hardly watch Supernatural, know it as well. When you see people in the industry talking about him (or, rather, when I read what they're saying) they seem impressed and feel that Ackles knows what the hell he's doing. Because he DOES. No detail seems to small for him to attend to, every bit of dialog has meaning, every gesture says something. Ackles ROCKS and that's all there is to that, the Emmys be damned.

As agt_spooky said, disappointed but not surprised.
It's probably a combination of the facts that the show is on CW, it's a horror show, and, well, Jensen is hot. And as that amazing "why Jensen Ackles doesn't deserve an Emmy" post stated - ugly good actors yes, hot bad actors yes, but a good looking guy who can act?! Not in this industry. It doesn't really matter, I sometimes get the feeling that happiness is something other for him, but everyone likes to be recognized for what they do, and he deserves it (!) god damn it.
And while I love Laurie and Leary (hehe) I gotta ask... Patrick Dempsey?! Not saying he's not a good actor, but he doesn't DO anything in that show. At least he didn't when I watched. Did something change in this season? Did he suddenly go all active and actually do something other than exists so the interns would have something to talk about during the breaks?
Khm, sorry, I just had a mini-aneurysm when I saw his name on the list.

Oh, lord, I didn't even want to go there. Dempsey's cute and all, but fairly bland when you put him next to Jensen Ackles. There's no way Dempsey's got the sophistication and the experience and the glowing talent that Ackles has. And I love Leary for his sarcasm and that witty mouth - Laurie the same, they've got great characters going there, far better than the blandness of every other actor out there for an Emmy right now. But compared to all the nuances of Ackle's Dean Winchester and it's like putting store brand vanilla ice cream up against Haagen Daz Butter Pecan, which happens to be my ALL time favorite.

Well, I have to admit to not having seen some of those shows, so I can't comment on whether I think the leads are deserving of making the shortlist or not.

I do know however, that Jensen Ackles can act Patrick Dempsey out of his socks. On an off day. And Jensen never has off days.

Stoopid Emmy-type people.

By the way, I haven't commented yet - because a) I'm lazy and b) I usually end up reading them at work - but I simply adore your SPN reviews!! They are absolutely brilliant. It's always so nice to read someone else's viewpoints and thoughts who not only gets the show, the characters and the actors like I do, but is also incredibly eloquent about it!

I watched House for a long time, until the orignal team was replaced. I watched Rescue Me a few times, but it was on so late, I kept missing eps. As for the others, yeah, I've heard of some of them, but never watched. Why waste your time when you have Ackles on Supernatural? Because you're right about him and Dempsey, even if Dempsey didn't have any socks on, the results would be the same. I'm not sure what logic the Emmy people are using but I'm sure it's the WRONG logic. If indeed it is logic and not, as I suspect, some good old boys network. Ackles DESERVES recognition from his peers!

I'm glad you enjoy reading the reviews - I'm a fan of the show myself, and writing them is my way of pretending I have the pleasure of watching each ep with fellow fans. Word to the Word power.
The Emmys (like just about any awards show) is really a popularity contest, and the CW is the network time forgot. Patrick Dempsey is on the (once) hot show, so he gets the nod. Jensen could act him out of the park, easy. On the one hand, I know that someday Jensen will recognized as the amazing talent that he is and I'll be happy, but on the other hand, I'll be sad because if that happens it will probably be because SPN has ended and he has gone on to a more high profile project. Hopefully, it won't break up his epic love with Jared.
