Summary: Six months after the events in Red October, Jack takes vacation (on his boss’s orders) and goes fishing. He runs into Capt. Ramius, who is working, natch, at the shop where Jack gets his supplies. The two decide to go fishing together, as they had once discussed, and find the opportunity to talk about what they did with that sub, and what it meant. In addition, they find the opportunity to discover a closeness that they had not heretofore anticipated.

Here’s the premise: Spock has determined that the only way he can save his and Kirk’s friendship is to ask for a transfer. This he does, and of course, Kirk objects, and decides that he and Spock should go out to dinner to discuss what it’s going to take to keep Spock on the Enterprise. What it eventually takes is a surprise to them both. Word count: 12,405

And, here is the description: While on shore leave, Kirk runs into Finnegan, who tells Kirk that he would not have been as successful without Spock. Kirk takes on a one-man mission in order to prove Finnegan wrong. (Kirk so has issues with this!) Meanwhile, Spock, wondering where his 3D chess partner has gone, goes after Kirk. Dean had said to stay close behind him, so Sammy did. The dining hall was filled with boys (Dean had reckoned on around fifty), but it sounded like a lot more. Maybe more like a thousand, the way the sound of their voices punched off the smooth, cold walls and ceiling. Lunch was coming, but it would be the same as it had for the past three days, minced beef, creamed corn, bread, and milk. Dean would make Sammy eat it, even if he didn’t want to. Then Sammy would get half of Dean’s dessert, for eating the swill anyway and keeping his strength up.

The characters of Dean and Sam, as well, wanted to spend more time with her, and who am I to resist the will of a Weechester? Dean’s hand shook as he picked up the receiver and pushed the quarter in the slot. He was just tall enough to reach, and as he did so, he looked over his shoulder to make sure he wasn’t being watched. Dad wouldn’t like it in the first place that he was out of the motel room, he would like it even less if someone saw him and decided it was strange to see a lone kid walking around so late at night. On top of which, he wasn’t supposed to call anyone. Yeah, Dad would be mad when he found out. Dean took a breath and punched the zero with his forefinger anyway. He didn’t know what else to do.
